Histroy
Since it has been developed as coal-shipping port, along with development of Jangseong and Dogye coal mine in 1930s, it has served as advance base for hard coal and cement cargo, with coal loading facility, as well as has provided important role for coastal fishery industry. As coal industry has been on decline the efforts have been shifted to attracting alternative cargo such as limestone, dolomite and iron stone. Its function will be further expanded to become an advance base for inter-Korean trade and the base port that will lead Ulreungdo sightseeing project.
